The news is that “Spore,” the highly anticipated Will Wright game, will go gold within a week. Here’s a link to a blog from CNET about it. My husband tried to download the creature creator a couple of weeks ago, but flew into a rage over EA’s download software because it seemed too much like Steam. Consequently, he didn’t download the software and swore an oath of eternal hatred and loathing towards EA. I was too busy with “Devil May Cry 4” on the XBox360 ;p to care. Anyhow, I’m pretty excited about this game and when my husband is not looking, I’ll give the creature creator a try.
One of the things I like about this game concept is the same thing I like about the Sims game series and that is heavy reliance on players to generate content for the game. If they’ve set up a good framework for game play, then the over 2-million user generated creatures populating the game should make for a very rich experience. From the E3 2008 coverage, they are calling this game “Massively Single Player” — meaning that the planet you build your civilization from will be populated with creatures created by other people. There is an interaction called “extinction” between players. I’m not sure how this works though. It will be interesting to see how this works though.
